Since P1 introduced its Fair Usage Policy to all the WiMAX subscribers, many people has raised numerous questions on it. Recently P1 has came up with their Fair Usage Policy FAQ. Here are some of the important FAQ’s:-

1.38 DOES P1 BLOCK P2P APPLICATIONS OR TRAFFIC?

• P1 does not block any peer to peer (P2P) or file sharing applications.

1.39 DOES P1 IMPLEMENT A FAIR USAGE POLICY?

• In order to ensure the broadband experience for the majority of P1’s customers is fast, reliable and of high quality, P1 implements a Fair Usage Policy to manage users who use the service excessively. However, P1 will not block or restrict the service completely for the users who user the service excessively, unless it is necessary.

1.41 HOW DOES P1′S FAIR USAGE POLICY AFFECT ME?

• P1’s Fair Usage Policy applies to all our customers but it will only affect you if you are one of the very few users who make inappropriate or excessive use of P1’s service. Majority of users who do not frequently upload or download very large number of videos, very large files and use peer to peer (P2P) and file sharing software will not be affected.

1.42 DOES P1 THROTTLE P2P OR BIT TORRENT TRAFFIC?

• P1 manages peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic from applications like Bit Torrent and other file sharing software when service congestion occurs, in order to maintain a fair, high quality and reliable level of service for all users.

1.44 WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF MY USAGE EXCEEDS 20GB THAT MONTH?

• If your data usage per month exceeds 20 Gigabytes, your broadband connection speed will be given lower priority during periods of high traffic usage and network congestion, and you may experience lower than average speed.

On my previous post, I have talked about my experience to P1 Hub. Now I’m going to talk about the issues which were discussed with the P1 Representatives.

The core issue which was discussed was about the fair usage policy. P1 has imposed a limit 20GB of date usage per month (upload and download) for P1’s standard fixed broadband service. The usage is monitored on a daily basis and the usage is calculated based on the total usage for the last 30 days. They have imposed it to keep their customers happy and first of all they need to ensure the fairness of all users because all of them are paying for the service. It would be unfair if one person throttle the whole connection.

Apart from that, P1 are soon rolling out their service at Alor Setar and Penang and by the end of 2008, they are planning to cover half the Klang Valley. They are also planning to implement an online tracking application, to track your monthly usage so that you are able to manage your bandwidth usage.

Hello Guys, sorry for not updating my blog for the past 3 weeks. Just have been busy with Deepavali Celebration and some other important stuff. As everyone knows, I have been blogging about our nation’s first WiMAX service since it was rolled out on August 2008 by Packet One. And given that I am blogging about WiMAX and my blog content has a lot of technology reviews, last week few bloggers & I was invited by Packet One to test all the packages at their new office at Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya.

The event started at 3.00p.m with touring the new Packet One building. The first visit was to view on how the networks are managed and to view what are the technologies involved behind the WiMAX services. Secondly we were brought to the staff recreation centre. At the moment they are only having a pool table and Foss ball. And since the office was not launched officially yet, there are few items lacking there. Such as Ogawa Massagers, they gym equipments and Sony Playstation 3. Even they have already fixed the plasma TV…;) Finally we were brought to the auditorium which accommodate 200++ people which was designed beautifully.

After the touring, we were given a small makan by P1 and the main event of the day started off. We were given a chance to test all the packages which varies by the speed. Furthermore they are able to answer all kind of questions which was raised by the bloggers. The event ended at 5.00p.m and before we leave, P1 gave us souvenir for spending our precious time with them.
